Ready to put down roots? The registration form for Delta’s Planting Our Roots – Free Tree Project is officially open, with 250 free trees up for grabs!
What You Need to Know
- Complete the form by Thursday, September 24 at 11:59 pm to enter.
- Each household may submit one (1) entry for a tree, which will be delivered to the homes of successful recipients in time for the fall planting season.
- The form includes ten (10) tree varieties to choose from, including two native selections, the garry oak and the vine maple. Applicants are asked to rank their top five (5) preferences. Tree assignments are based on applicants’ ranked preferences and tree availability.
- Residents who received a tree through Planting Our Roots – Free Tree Project in the previous two seasons of the program are not eligible to participate this season.
- We want to see your tree in its new home! Once your tree is planted, share a photo using #PlantingOurRoots and tag @CityofDeltaBC on Instagram or @CityofDeltaBC on Facebook.
Recipients will be notified approximately two weeks following the close of the registration form. Before planting, tree recipients are reminded to:
- Ensure you don't hit an underground utility: Contact BC 1 Call to identify any underground utilities before you begin digging.
- Check your property lines: Use the free DeltaMap tool to make sure your planting spot is within the bounds of your private property.
Not sure how to go about planting your new tree? The City of Delta provides planting guides and tree care resources to ensure it gets off to a healthy start. By caring for these trees, residents will do their part to grow Delta's urban canopy and support a more resilient natural environment.
